Scripps Clinic IM Residency
Thank you for your interest in the Scripps Clinic/Scripps Green Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program. This website provides you with specific information about the program – an overview, detailed description, philosophy, structure and management—as well as general information about Scripps Clinic and the Scripps Green Hospital.
The residency program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The program is grounded in Scripps Clinic’s solid commitment to excellence in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education. Founded in 1924 by philanthropist and journalist Ellen Browning Scripps, the institution has grown and evolved into one of the preeminent health science complexes in the country. In 1986, the Internal Medicine Residency Program was established through a generous endowment provided by Cecil and Ida Green.
While delivering care to several hundred thousand San Diegans each year, Scripps Clinic and the Scripps Green Hospital serve as a major referral center for patients from the southwestern United States, as well as further areas of the country, and for patients from Mexico and other nations, especially Pacific Rim countries. The variety of challenging clinical problems reflected in this population, both as inpatients and outpatients, is a major strength of the program. Despite the relatively modest size of our 173-bed hospital, there is considerable turnover, with several thousand admissions each year and a remarkably high acuity level. The hospital and the institution have a number of renowned Centers of Excellence, a highly coveted NIH Clinical & Translational Science Award, and 14 ACGME accredited training programs. Collectively, the clinical facilities, the research laboratories and medical training programs produce one of the most respected medical-science complexes in the nation.
